Celebrities Who Refused a Star in Hollywood’s Walk of Fame

Walk of Fame is a popular landmark located in Hollywood. It comprises more than 2,690 five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars embedded in the sidewalks along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood, California. The stars are permanent public monuments to achievement in the entertainment industry, bearing the names of a mix of musicians, actors, directors, producers, musical and theatrical groups, fictional characters, and others. It is a popular tourist destination in US. About 10 million tourists visit Walk of Fame annually.

Many Hollywood stars consider that having a star in Walk of Fame as a huge achievement. Because not every celebrity is given the chance to have put their name among the stars. Each year about 200 names are nominated but only less than 25 celebrities are selected among them. These nominations are done by anyone including fans. Those who were not selected are taken into the next years selection but if one was not selected within two years then again that particular celebrity must be nominated. Living recipients must agree to attend personally the ceremony but if the ceremony is not held within two year of time then again the celebrity is removed. Also a fee of $50,000 should be paid.

But there are few celebrities who were selected yet did not wanted to have a star. Let’s see who they are…

Whitney Houstan

The legendary singer was nominated and selected in 1995 for the installation of the star in her name but neither her representatives nor staff came to the organization to set a date for the event. At the time celebrities had a dead line of 5 years but no one heard from Whitney or her representatives. Even after her death the organizing committee was willing to hold an event for the singer but later Houstan’s manager revealed that the singer did not wanted anyone to walk on her name.

Clint Eastwood

The actor was nominated several times for the event but each and every time his response was a no. He does not reveal why he would not agree to this honor.

Julia Roberts

The actress was given the opportunity to have a star installed in her name but she kindly refused the offer. Just like Eastwood she had not revealed any particular reason for her decision.

Denzel Washington

The award winning actor had the same opportunity and he had agreed to place a star but sadly he never set a date of the event to take place.

George Clooney

Just like Denzel Washington, actor George Clooney never contacted the organizing committee to set a date.

Al Pachino

Bruce Springsteen

Prince

The late singer was nominated for the event in 1990s but singer turned down his opportunity by saying it was not still his time. After his death once again he was nominated but according to the rules of the organizing committee 5 years must pass since the death to obtain a star posthumously.

Mohammad Ali

The famous boxer did actually agreed to have a star but he did not wanted people to step on his name for religious purposes. So he got a star in 2002 but not on the road. The plaque is located on a wall of the Dolby theater. It is the first and only star plaque to have installed in a wall instead of the side of the road.
